The World Bank Tells Us That We Waste A Third Of The World's Food Production...

As if we didn't know already.
But we, all of us, need reminding.
The World Bank tells us that a third of the food produced in the world is never eaten.
It is wasted.
And that waste is increasing the cost of buying food for you and me.
Families in wealthy nations such as the UK are each throwing away nearly seven hundred pounds worth of food a year and in the US, families chuck out nearly a thousand dollars worth of good food annually.
Sadly more than half of the food lost occurs in developing countries and in the so called developed world, the waste is caused by consumerism.
The amount of food wasted globally is shameful says World Bank President Jim Yong Kim. Millions of people go to bed hungry every night and yet millions of tons of good food ends up in our trash cans and landfills...

  1. Don't think hunger is just in third world nations, either. Plenty of people go to bed hungry within a mile of where I live. It just doesn't get much play in the press.

  2. The World Bank causes hunger because they are connected to food mafia who own food production. They do away with independent farmers.World Bank sleeps with Monsanto. And they love GMO.

  4. Sustainable small scale, biodiverse farms are the answer to the ravages of giant food corporations ...these farmers are close to the soil, close to the population and grow organically - They can't afford the chemicals. This way of farming is healthy ecologically, economically and politically...but unfortunately they are not wanted by the food corporations. Luckily there are people fighting for them -Vandana Shiva in India is one. Let's get rid of supermarkets, let's get rid of monoculture....

    1. Unfortunately the corner store and the local butcher, baker and fruit 'n vege shops are virtually no more. Supermarket chains and big business have made sure of that.
Perhaps we have a day a week when the public boycott supermarkets. I really don't know what the answer is or how to fix the world but I do know the problem is greed...

  6. Complete propaganda. Always shifting the blame. Sure, food is wasted, but lets point the spotlight on the reality of rising costs, which is the BANKING INDUSTRY and inflation from their endless money printing machines. Fractional reserve banking and corporations in bed with the political = slave system.

Expect costs of everything to continue to rise indefinitely until the above mentioned systems crash. People are too dumbed down for that to happen though and only believe it if it comes out of their TV or some faux authority figure's mouth.

  7. Here in Oregon (USA) we shop at the Farmers' Markets as much as possible. All locally grown and mostly organic. We are fortunate and can shop every weekend for the best there is to offer. And, we are grateful.

  8. The heavy guy at the garbage truck could be eating the equivalent of garbage, thinking it's 'cheap food'. I don't see many people super heavy eating food that is good for them (with the occasional splurge, of course).

  9. We have learned over the past 5 years or so to buy what we will eat, and then to eat what we buy. We buy locally. We buy from the Farmer's Market as much as possible. The food lasts so much longer because it is fresh. That means less for the worms and birds.

Oh, and we don't eat meat. Such a wasteful system that feeds human food to animals so we can eat them kill and eat them. My 2c.
