Tiny Houseboat On Wheels...

ME AND ER is a very gorgeous little 'Retreat' Shantyboat drawn in 1947 by the famous American marine architect, William Atkin.
He also drew the lines for my 'Thistle' yacht Sofia in 1934 but that's another story.
Paul and Jenny built the eighteen foot, seven inch draft Meander for cruising their favourite sheltered waters wherever that may be.
Yesterday it was Parua Bay, not far from where they live on their homestay property, Tahikaka, surrounded by native bush and Olive trees.
But that's another story too...

  1. What a way to go... life on the ocean wave in such a fascinating little house.

  2. That is quite cute and it looks livable. Being shallow draft allows it to go into secluded places.

  3. Realy nice boat. Great job. What do you think about it? would you recomend it to a first time builder?

  4. It's very simple, nothing really complex about the build. Have a good look at the plans and enjoy doing it. Take it slowly and remember to measure twice, cut once...

  5. This is an awesome little barge. I've been researching shantyboat projects for a few years now, and yours is definitely at the top of the roll. What a good job! Homey-looking thing, too. All I'd need (up here in Canada) is a tiny woodstove, and I'm guessing a little more insulation, and I'd be in business.

    Thanks for the great post!
